Privacy Policy
Consensus Atlas (the “App”) · Last updated: March 27, 2026
App Privacy.
This policy describes how [STEVEN THOMPSON] (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use the Consensus Atlas mobile application and related services.
1. What the App does
Consensus Atlas lets you explore map-based content, create an account, and upload photos or videos with optional location and descriptive information. Some features work without signing in; others require an account.
2. Information we collect
Account and authentication. If you register or sign in, we process identifiers and credentials you provide (such as email and password) or receive from sign-in providers you choose. Session tokens may be stored securely on your device (for example in the iOS Keychain) so you stay signed in.
Content you submit. Media you capture or select, descriptions, tags, visibility settings, album selections, and related metadata you submit are sent to our servers to provide the service.
Location. If you allow location access, the App may use your location to show nearby content on the map and to attach location to uploads, as described in the system permission prompts.
Device media. If you allow access, the App may read from your photo library or use the camera and microphone as described in the system permission prompts.
3. How we use information
We use the information above to:
Operate, maintain, and improve the App and our backend services;
Authenticate you and enforce visibility and access rules for content;
Display map-based and social features you request;
Protect security, investigate abuse, and comply with law where required.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use third-party advertising analytics SDKs in the App as part of this build; if that changes, we will update this policy.
4. Where data is processed
Information is transmitted to and stored on servers we operate or host (for example cloud infrastructure). By using the App, you understand that data may be processed in the United States or other countries where we or our providers operate.
5. Service providers
Maps. The App uses Google Maps for map display. Google may process certain technical data in accordance with Google’s policies when map features are used.
Sign-in providers. If you use Google or Apple to sign in, those providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies as part of the OAuth flow.
Hosting and infrastructure. Our API and storage may be provided by third-party hosts; they process data only as needed to provide those services to us.
6. Retention
We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account or certain data by contacting us (see below); we will respond in line with applicable law.
7. Your choices
You can revoke location, camera, microphone, or photo library permissions in your device settings; some features may stop working.
You can sign out or delete the App; locally stored tokens may be removed according to platform behavior.
For account-related requests (access, correction, deletion), contact us at the email below.
8. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
10. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the revised policy.
